Inez Lenore (Niemi) Lund


Merrimac, MA — Inez Lund passed away March 20, 2014, at the age of 99.

Inez was very active in the community. Among her many accomplishments and accolades, she was a charter member of the Merrimac Council of Aging, first director and founder of the Senior Center, founding member of the Northern Essex Community College Life Long Learning Program, and past director of the Haverhill Women’s City Club.

She also founded the Gad-A-Bouts, a senior travel group, and as a group leader, escorted her groups throughout the United States and Europe.

At age 65, she graduated from Northern Essex Community College with two degrees. The college is on the property that was once the Lund family farm.

For 58 years, she was a member of Merrimacport Methodist Church, and was past president of the Women’s Society.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Lund; Sister Gertrude Niemi; and granddaughter, Elisa Miller. She is survived by her children, Thomas Lund and wife, Barbara, of Amesbury, Sally McAuliffe and husband, Robert, of Jamaica Plain, Susan Sears and husband, Myron, of Marstons Mills, and Harold Lund and wife, Phyllis, of Reading; along with 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, at 11:30 a.m., at Merrimacport Methodist Church. Preceding the service there will be calling hours at Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 36 Main Street, Merrimac, from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M.
