North Andover, Ma — Peter Hoffman, 66, of North Andover passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 2nd, with his family by his bedside at North Western Memorial Hospital in Downtown Chicago. Peter will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 43 years, Emily, and his four children and their families: Amy and her husband Steven Vallant of Methuen, MA; Heather and her fiance Jody VanCoppenolle of New Durham, NH; Joshua Hoffman and his wife Renee of Lincoln, MA and Courtney and her husband Matthew Tsiaras of Wayland, MA. He was the loving grandfather of Tyler Vallant, Christopher Vallant, Kyle Tsiaras and Griffin Hoffman. He also leaves a brother, Philip Hoffman and his wife Suzanne and many nieces and nephews.
Peter was born in Burlington, Vermont, and was the son of the late Roger and Jean Hoffman. He was a graduate of Ipswich High School and earned a Bachelor Degree from Springfield College. He spent the vast majority of his career working in the durable medical equipment field, most recently for National Seating and Mobility, providing complex custom rehabilitation products for people with serious mobility challenges. He was a long standing member of the New England Medical Equipment Dealers and was recognized by his peers as a pioneer in fighting for the rights of the disabled and for the industry in general.
During his life, Peter enjoyed many sports. He followed the Red Sox and Patriots faithfully. In his youth he played football, hockey and baseball, and in his later years he loved to play golf and fish. Peter's family was his number one priority and he took great joy in spending time with them. He will be remembered fondly for his easy going nature and for his wonderful sense of humor. He was an inspiration and role model to all who knew him.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in Peter's honor at 11:00am on Friday, September 7th, 2012, at The Andover Country Club, 60 Canterbury Street, Andover, Ma. In lieu of flowers please take a moment to toast the memory of "Major" Peter!
