Lawrence — Rita Marie Librizzo, devoted sister, aunt and friend died peacefully with her loving family by her side at the Hannah Dustin Nursing Facility Thursday, March 7, 2013. Rita was born in Lawrence to Vincent and Jeannette (Sammataro) Librizzo.
Rita graduated from Lawrence High School in 1937. She kept in touch with many of her class mates and faithfully attended all her high school reunions until her illness.
Upon graduation from high school she worked as a stitcher for Grieco Brothers. She then graduated from the MacIntosh School of Business and became the secretary at Holy Rosary Parish in Lawrence for 45 years.
Rita was a member of St. Rita’s Sodality. She was extremely committed and participated and supported all of the many special events over the years, especially the Feast of the Three Saints where she organized and helped make “crispellis”.
She had a special bond and friendship with the many pastores and priests throughout her career, often bringing them with her to family dinners. She also kept in touch with them once their tenure at Holy Rosary ended. She loved her church family. You could always find Aunt Rita in the first row of the church, one step ahead of whoever was serving Mass. She volunteered for the blind as a secretary and driver and supported countless charities, especially the poor, throughout her life.
She had a flair for fashion and loved ballroom dancing, traveling the world and cooking. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
May you rest in peace Aunt Rita. Your memory and love will be with us always.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hannah Dustin for the love and respect given to her during her stay.
One of 12 children, Rita was predeceased by her siblings, Tillie Arsenault, Marie Marresse, Anne Shapiro, Lucy Dahl, Jeannette Muchowski and Tony, Pete, Jim and Steve Librizzo.
