Antonio "Tony" DiTommaso, 89

Lawrence — Antonio “Tony” DiTommaso, 89, of Lawrence, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Holy Family Hospital. He was born in Lawrence and was the son of the late Vincenzo and Maria (Annucilla) DiTommaso.

Tony was a graduate of Lawrence High School and Boston University. While in school he excelled in football and many other sports. After graduating from college, Tony enlisted in the Merchant Marines and was a World War II veteran and served with the U.S. Navy. After his service in the Navy, he worked as a Union Laborer, was a foreman at Lawrence Maid Shoe for many years and also worked at Defiant Circuit in South Lawrence. After his retirement he worked as a cook at Red’s Diner on Essex St. in Lawrence.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son Vincent. He also enjoyed cooking and crossword puzzles and was a former longtime member of the Rocky Club. In his later years he spent all his time reading and teaching his grandchildren whom he loved to be with.

He is survived by his son, Vincent DiTommaso of Derry, N.H.; his daughters, Jonie Lescizka and her husband, David of Haverhill and Ruthann Steinberg of California; his brother, Vincent DiTommaso and his wife, Winifred of Lawrence and Florida, Ferdette of Florida. There are five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Tony was predeceased by his grandson, Anthony DiTommaso and his sisters, Beatrice Campopiano, Anna Vallante and Mary Seaman.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.
