Salem, N.H. — Roger J. Ackerman, 96, of Salem, N.H., died on Monday April 1, 2013, at his home with his wife and his daughter at his side. Mr. Ackerman was born, raised and educated in Salem and lived in Salem all of his life. Before retirement, he worked as a contractor and builder building over 100 homes in the Salem area. He was an excellent cabinet maker, custom boat maker and violin maker.
Roger served with the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II and he was also a member of The U.S. Army Orchestra. He was a self-made man. He was brilliant and multi-talented and could make or fix just about anything. He was very devoted to his wife and family and provided wonderful care for her.
His family members include his wife of 73 years, M. Frances Ackerman of Salem, and his daughter, Joyce H. Ackerman and her husband, Raymond T. Gordon, Jr. of Derry, N.H., and his sons, John and his wife Kim Ackerman of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Richard B. and his wife, Michelle Ackerman of Amesbury. Roger also leaves his sister, Charlotte Driscoll and his grandchildren, John and Steven Ackerman, Abigail and Alissa and Zachary Ackerman and his great grandchildren, Justin, Christina and John as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sons, William D. Ackerman and Stephen Ackerman.
