Richard E. "Zeke" Hanagan, 78

Bradford — Richard E. “Zeke” Hanagan, 78, of the Bradford section of Haverhill, died Friday, January 4, 2013, at home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late George L. and Helen (Driscoll) Hanagan. Educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Sacred Hearts Grammar School, and Haverhill Trade School, Class of 1952. He then continued his education at Wentworth Institute in Boston and after graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard. He then went on to receive his Teaching Degree from Framingham State College.

Well known to many people in this city as being a fair yet disciplined teacher, he earned the respect of his students as well as his colleagues as he taught the carpentry program in the Hunking School, Haverhill High School, and retired from the Nettle School in 1990. As a contractor, he built many homes throughout the city.

A loving father and grandfather, Richard relished the time he spent living with his daughter and son in law for the past four years. In his free time he was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, he loved what nature had to offer and let nothing come in the way of his many hunting or fishing excursions.

He leaves his children; Teresa A. Laurin, her husband, Normand and their children, Jacob and Joshua; William P. Hanagan his wife, Pamela and their children, Adam and Sean; Kathleen and her husband Tony Barone and their children, Alexandra, Jacqueline, and Anthony, with whom he lived; Richard E. Jr., his wife, Tara, and their children, Mitchell and Natalie; two great grandchildren, Brody and Mariah, a brother and sister in law; Robert and Francis Hanagan, of Bradford, a sister, Mary Murphy, of Atkinson, NH, and nieces and nephews. He also leaves his longtime friend and companion, Judy Sherburne, and former wife of twenty-nine years, Diane M. (Archetti) Foss. He was predeceased by a brother George, and brother in law, Donald Murphy.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Monday, January 7, from 5 until 8 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. (Rte 125) Haverhill. Funeral services will be held at 8:15 PM in the funeral home following the time of visitation. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Haverhill Boys Club, P.O.
