Pearl Lostimolo, 94

Methuen — Pearl (Rosch) Lostimolo, 94, of Methuen, died peacefully Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Methuen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Methuen.

Pearl, daughter of the late Englebert and Martha (Bartle) Rosch, was born in Lawrence on February 3, 1918 and lived in Methuen for many years. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School class of 1936 and attended McIntosh Business School.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and astrology and will be remembered for her wonderful foot massages.

Pearl will be sadly missed by her daughters, Shirley Hobbs, Mary Lou Farnham and her husband, Kenneth and Christine "Tina" Willard, all of Methuen and Sally Riley and her significant other, Frank Gibney of Haverhill; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Rocco Lostimolo who died in 2001 and her brother, Philip Rosch of Salem who died many years ago.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are invited to attend her Funeral Service in the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen on Saturday, January 12 at 12:30 p.m. Rev. Eleazer Carver will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, N.H. Friends will be warmly received in the Kenneth H. She was born in Winchester, Mass., on May 22, 1926, a daughter of the late Ralph and Nancy (Pittera) Teti. Mrs. Hill was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Lawrence, Mass. A very active person who had many friends, she was involved in several social groups including the Londonderry Seniors and Windham Seniors. She was a very competitive Bingo and card player. She was a great cook and loved cooking for her family. A devout Catholic, Mrs. Hill was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church and a member of the Rosary Group. She was a previous member of the Red Hatters.

    West Newton, MA — Helen S. Kalivas, formerly of Haverhill, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, on May 22, 2013. She was born the youngest of three children to Nicholas and Eva (Ducacaros) Kalivas in Haverhill. Helen graduated from Haverhill High School, and earned her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Boston University. Helen became an exemplary teacher, and brought American History to life for students at Falmouth, Beverly, Whitman, and Newton High Schools during her career. She loved to teach and was a truly beloved teacher. She was first a teacher and then a friend to each student. They came to her with their problems. She listened. She saw the future of our country in each student, and knew our country would survive. Helen so positively impacted her students that many of them kept in touch with her for decades. Helen loved to travel, and had an abiding curiosity and interest in everyone and everything around her. She was known for her magical green thumb. Her love for her niece, grandnieces, and great-grandnephews was boundless. The world was brighter when Helen smiled.

    Lawrence — Olive M. (Arsenault) Lemay, 89, of Lawrence, died peacefully May 22, 2013, at the Mary Immaculate Nursing Home in Lawrence. Olive was born February 23, 1924, in Rumford, Maine, to the late Joseph and Cecilia Arsenault. She moved to Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School and McIntosh School of Business. Olive was predeceased by her loving husband of more than 50 years, Euclide Lemay, who died in 2000.She is survived by her sons; Wayne M. Lemay and his significant other, Michele Huapaya, of Salem, N.H., Michael D. and his wife, Debra Lemay, of Methuen; and her loving grandson, David and his wife, Nicole, Lemay of Lawrence. Her family would like to give their heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at the Mary Immaculate Nursing Home for the wonderful, loving care given to Ollie over the past few years.

    Haverhill, MA — Ronald P Jones, Sr. 76, died May 21, 2013, at Anna Jaques Hospital. He was born in Haverhill, April 18, 1937, son of Walter and Gladys (Mercier) Jones. He was educated in Haverhill schools, and served in U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member and four-time Commander of the American Legion Unit 4; 40/8; life member of the V.F.W. and the D.A.V; Sons of the American Legion Unit 4; and Past President of the Sachem Order of Red Men of Maine. He was president and founder of the New Rescue 8 CB Club, and life member of REACT. He was a retired school bus driver for Special Needs students for the City of Haverhill. He enjoyed traveling to different states to visit CB clubs.

  • Merton E. Roberts Jr., 88

    Georgetown, MA — Merton E. Roberts Jr., 88, of West Newbury and formerly of Georgetown, passed away May 23, 2013, at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill. He was born August 14, 1924, son of of the late Sadie (Collins) Roberts and Merton E. Roberts Sr., and went through the Georgetown School system, graduating from the Perley High School. He was drafted at the age of 18 and proudly served his country during World War II with the 7th Army in France, and later transferring to the Third Army, serving under General Patton. He earned two battle stars, the European Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, the good conduct ribbon and received the rank of Corporal as a gunner on the 90mm. His outfit was called in to help with the Battle of the Bulge.

  • 1st Lt. Paul M. DeMeo, 23

    Derry, NH and Fort Bragg, NC — U.S. Army Ranger 1st Lt. Paul M. DeMeo, 23, of Derry, N.H., died unexpectedly May 14, while stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Paul was serving as a rifle platoon leader for Company B, 2nd Battalion, 505th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. Born at U.S. Army Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands on Oct. 1, 1989, Paul was a 2011 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Management. He was a 2007 graduate of Pinkerton High School. He joined the 2nd/505th in August 2012. Paul was a 2012 graduate of the Infantry Officer Leadership Basic Course, U.S. Army Ranger School and U.S. Army Airborne School. In his current assignment as a rifle platoon leader, Paul was responsible for leading an airborne infantry platoon capable of deploying in 18 hours to fight and win against a determined enemy. He was responsible for the health, welfare and performance of 38 paratroopers; as well as the care and accountability of more than $500,000 worth of unit equipment.

She was a member of the Scottish Highland and Crystal Springs Golf Club, and the NH Women’s Golf Association. She is survived by her husband, James Sweet of Salem, N.H.; son, James A. and his wife Phyllis Sweet of Salem, N.H.; brothers, Lloyd and his wife Judy Flowers of Canada, Gary and his wife Sharon Flowers of Canada; granddaughter, Samantha Marie Sweet; and several nieces and nephews.

    Andover, MA — Jonathan G. Leonard of Andover passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 21, at the age of 39. He was the loving son of Dr. Thomas and Lois Leonard of Andover; and beloved brother to Russell Leonard, Dr. Jeffrey Leonard, and Suzanne Vazquez; brother in-law to Dr. Angel Gangoy-Leonard and Osvaldo Vazquez; and proud uncle of Dylan and Matthew Leonard, and Oliver, Samuel, and Amelia Vazquez. He was employed at Stop and Shop where he had been a loyal employee for over 10 years. He was very active in the Special Olympics and he won numerous medals and trophies in different events through the years. He was also involved in several local bowling leagues and enjoyed spending his free time with his girlfriend, Tina, and his large group of friends from the area.
