Christine Marie (Roberts) Mattinson

Danville, N.H. — Christine Marie Mattinson, of Danville N.H., was released to eternal rest Saturday, January 12, 2013, after a three and a quarter year battle with cancer. She had fought strongly and courageously, with the loving support of her family, who feel honored to have shared her life and will miss her greatly.

Christine was born in Haverhill on March 25, 1966. She lived for most of her childhood in Merrimac, and attended Merrimac public schools, graduating from Pentucket Regional High School in 1984. Subsequently, she attended White Pines College in Chester, N.H., graduating in 1986 with an Associate Degree in Social Service. Following graduation, her life was devoted to working with children with severe handicaps. She worked briefly in Manchester NH, and then until her passing, she was employed as a Teaching Assistant in the Salem NH public schools, where she served as a one-on-one assistant for a succession of students with special needs. There is nobody who could have fulfilled this role with more compassion and love than Christine did, and that love was returned by the students with whom she worked and by their parents.

Christine was married in 1988 to Brad Lionel Mattinson of Haverhill, the son of the late William and Jeanne (Dufour) Mattinson. Their daughter Jenifer was born in 1990, followed by another daughter, Chelsea, in 1992. In 1996, the family moved to Danville NH where they have lived since that time. Theirs has been a devoted and loving family, which could well serve as a model for our troubled world.

In addition to her devoted husband, Brad, she leaves her parents, Leonard and Nancy Bachelder of Merrimac, her daughter Jenifer Call and husband Robert, daughter Chelsea Mattinson and her boyfriend Nicholas Shore, step-son Michael Mattinson of North Andover, sister Roxanne Brown of Merrimac, sister Suzanne Roberts of Newburyport, brother Richard Roberts and wife Susan of Merrimac. She will also be missed and lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Pamela Mattinson Bovio Hemenway of Ashland KY, nieces Sara Mattinson of Garfield Heights OH, Kathleen Brown of Dunedin FL, Sheri Walker and her husband Kenneth and four children of Clearwater FL, nephews Matthew Roberts and wife Caileigh, Alex and Adam Roberts of Merrimac, nephew Todd Bovio of Ashland KY, and many of her former students.

Christine at various times enjoyed working with Special Olympics, Girl Scouts, school activities with her daughters, and camping trips and “girls’ outings” with her mother and sisters. Among her favorite recreations were days at the beach and foliage trips to the White Mountains, especially the Kancamagus Highway. She loved gardening, decorating pumpkins and baking, and was known to all her friends as the “cupcake lady”.

Christine’s family wishes to publicly acknowledge the caring and compassionate help given to her and to them by the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Intensive Care Unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, will be Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 2 to 4 P.M. immediately followed by “Reflections from the Family”. After services are concluded at the funeral home, family and friends are invited to attend the “Celebration of Life” gathering at the Merrimac Senior Center, 100 East Main Street, Merrimac.
