Raynham, MA. — Olga (Kazura) Palenski, 86,of Raynham, MA. and formerly of Andover, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 3, 2013 after brief illness, in the company of her loved ones. She was the widow of Edward A. Palenski. Olga was born in Lowell on March 12, 1926 and was the daughter of Russian immigrants, the late Paul and Agatha Kazura. She was raised in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1944. She went on to work at the Boston Navy Yard, after which she worked at the Arlington Trust Company for several years. She met and then married Edward in 1948; they were married 58 years.

Olga had two children, Paul and Marcia, and stayed at home to raise them. In 1969, she began to work in the Andover Town Clerk’s Office. After several years, she became Assistant Town Clerk, then Acting Town Clerk. After 21 devoted years on the job, she retired in 1990. She would spend the next 23 years a devoted wife, mother, and fulltime grandmother.

Olga enjoyed summers at the family’s lakeside cottage in Harrisville, NH and holidays surrounded by family on Elm Street. Olga played in a bowling league in Haverhill every Thursday. She was also active in the Andover Republican Town Committee, the Andover Home for the Aged, and the Andover Fire Department Auxiliary, and she was an active member of Christ Church in Andover. Olga volunteered tirelessly every Tuesday at the Andover Thrift Shop, a ministry of Christ Church.

She enjoyed several summer trips to Nantucket to visit her son’s family. In her retirement she became a fulltime, quick-witted grandmother. Last year she traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan to joyfully attend the wedding of her grandson Anthony.

In 2009, she sold her home and moved to Raynham to be closer to her children. She continued to have the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune delivered each day. She was a lifelong Andover resident, where she knew everyone and everyone knew her.

Olga is survived by a son, Paul Palenski, and his wife, Taffy, of Nantucket; a daughter, Marcia, and her husband, Gordon, of Raynham. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Ted Palenski, of New Haven, CT; Stephen Palenski, of Colorado and Nantucket; Anthony Luciano and his wife, Meghan; Christine and Marissa, all of Raynham. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Rogoz and Viola Bobryk.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be on Thursday February 7, 2013 from 4 to 7 pm at The Charles Dewhirst Andover Funeral Home, 33 Pearson Street, Andover, MA. Funeral services will be on Friday February 8 at 10:00 am in Christ Church, 25 Central Street, Andover, MA. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover. 1st Lt. Paul M. DeMeo, 23

Derry, NH and Fort Bragg, NC — U.S. Army Ranger 1st Lt. Paul M. DeMeo, 23, of Derry, N.H., died unexpectedly May 14, while stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Paul was serving as a rifle platoon leader for Company B, 2nd Battalion, 505th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. Born at U.S. Army Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands on Oct. 1, 1989, Paul was a 2011 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Management. He was a 2007 graduate of Pinkerton High School. He joined the 2nd/505th in August 2012. Paul was a 2012 graduate of the Infantry Officer Leadership Basic Course, U.S. Army Ranger School and U.S. Army Airborne School. In his current assignment as a rifle platoon leader, Paul was responsible for leading an airborne infantry platoon capable of deploying in 18 hours to fight and win against a determined enemy. He was responsible for the health, welfare and performance of 38 paratroopers; as well as the care and accountability of more than $500,000 worth of unit equipment.

Derry, NH — Eldon S. “Barney” Morine, 89, of Derry, N.H., died Thursday, May 23, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry, N.H. Barney was born and educated in Maine. He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII and he received a purple heart. Barney was a self employed contractor and a member of the DAV. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and he loved dogs. Salem, NH — Sharon M. (Flowers) Sweet, age 64, of Salem, N.H., died Thursday at the Parkland Medical Center, Derry, N.H. She was born in New Carlisle, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Wilson and Hazel Flowers. She grew up and was educated in Quebec and Montreal, Canada. She was a resident of Salem for the past 43 years. Sharon was a controller for Pinnacle Solutions in Ward Hill, Mass. She was an avid golfer. She was a member of the Scottish Highland and Crystal Springs Golf Club, and the NH Women’s Golf Association. She is survived by her husband, James Sweet of Salem, N.H.; son, James A. and his wife Phyllis Sweet of Salem, N.H.; brothers, Lloyd and his wife Judy Flowers of Canada, Gary and his wife Sharon Flowers of Canada; granddaughter, Samantha Marie Sweet; and several nieces and nephews.

Georgetown — Walter H. Janes, 88, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport surrounded by caring family members. He was born in Chelsea, Mass., on October 17, 1924 to the late John E. and Clara (Howell) Janes. Raised and educated in Chelsea, he was a graduate of Chelsea High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served proudly during WWII. Following an honorable discharge, he enrolled in Wentworth Institute of Technology and graduated with the Class of 1947.

Andover, MA — Jonathan G. Leonard of Andover passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 21, at the age of 39. He was the loving son of Dr. Thomas and Lois Leonard of Andover; and beloved brother to Russell Leonard, Dr. Jeffrey Leonard, and Suzanne Vazquez; brother in-law to Dr. Angel Gangoy-Leonard and Osvaldo Vazquez; and proud uncle of Dylan and Matthew Leonard, and Oliver, Samuel, and Amelia Vazquez. He was very active in the Special Olympics and he won numerous medals and trophies in different events through the years. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Pasqualina (Miele) and Alexander, and her sister, Evelyn. Helen had a beauty of character and personality that was noticed by everyone she met. She devoted her life to raising and loving her family. She also devoted a good part of her life to her parish church and the elementary school children of Reading at Pearl Street and Killam Schools. She served as a volunteer teacher’s aide at the two schools for almost 30 years. She served at St. Athanasius in the old Arts and Crafts group and sang in the church choir for almost 35 years.
