Elizabeth Avery Palmer, 91


North Andover — Elizabeth Avery Palmer, aged 91, died peacefully on February 10,2013, surrounded by her loving family. "Betty" was a resident of Prescott House Nursing Home in North Andover. She was born in Westfield to Charles and Florence St. John Avery.

Betty was predeceased by her former husband, Allan J. Urquhart; her son, Ross E. Urquhart; her late husband, William R. Palmer of Westfield; and her brother, Edwin S. Avery. She is survived by sons, Gary Urquhart and his wife, Konjit of Atlanta, Ga., Brian Urquhart and his wife, Karen of North Andover, and her daughter, Janet E. Hutchinson and her husband, Glenn of Oakland, Maine. Additionally, Betty is survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandaughter, Sophia Elizabeth, born on Jan. 29, 2013.

Betty was educated in the Westfield Public Schools and a member of the High School, class of 1938. She then attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. She worked as a social worker in Letchworth, N.Y., before marrying and raising her family. In later years Betty was the Director of the St. John's Community Nursery School in Hingham.

Always in good humor, Betty was fun loving and up-beat right up until her final days. She loved all outdoor activities including gardening and golf and was supremely proud of achieving the Girl Scouts of America's highest award of "Golden Eaglet".

Her family wishes to publicly thank the outstanding staffs of the Prescott House Nursing Home and Ashland Farms Assisted Living for the highly professional and loving care of Betty through her years spent here in North Andover.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her memorial service will take place on February 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 72 Elm Street, North Andover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Girl Scouts of America, Spar and Spindle Council, 1740 Turnpike Street, North Andover, MA 01845, or to a charity of your choice.
