Atkinson, NH — John “Jack” Lewis Chapman passed away at his home in Atkinson on July 18, 2013, with his loving family by his side. Born in Revere, Mass., he was the son of the late Herman A. and Frances Watts Chapman. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Louise Dale Chapman. He lived most of his adult life in Andover, Mass. His later years were spent in Atkinson, N.H., and in Florida.
A graduate of Northeastern, he was a mechanical engineer at Raytheon until early retirement, after which he built homes in Billerica, North Andover, Boxford, Mass., and Atkinson.
Jack was a lifelong Mason, who devoted his life to helping others. Among many other activities, he regularly volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and traveled on mission trips to Guatemala and Costa Rica, where he helped build a school and a playground. His hands were always there to support any offer of help he made.
Jack touched the lives of many and he will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his son, David Chapman of Atkinson; his daughter, Christine Chapman of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Andover; his grandson, Matthew Odom of San Diego; his granddaughter, Kayla Chapman of Atkinson; and a brother, H. LeRoy Chapman of Malvern, Pa. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Jean T. Pradetto Chapman, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and her family.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be held at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, August 6, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 63 E Broadway, Derry, N.H. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m., prior to the service at the church.
