N. Fort Myers, FL — M. Virginia Brady, R.N., 84, formerly of Windham, NH, passed away at her Florida home.
A Lawrence native, she was daughter to the late Deputy Police Chief Daniel F. Hart of the Lawrence Police Dept., and Catherine (Janotka) Hart. Her father, Deputy Dan, and grandfather, Lawrence Patrolman John J. Hart were the city’s first father and son police team.
Mrs. Brady was a registered nurse serving 45 years at Lawrence General Hospital and was also the Assistant Dir., of Admissions at LGH.
In 1967, she became the first woman elected to the Board of Selectmen in the Town of Windham, serving for three terms. An advocate for the townspeople, she became VP for the NH Municipal Assoc., and worked to compose the “Welfare Agents Handbook” for Selectmen. Always successful, Virginia Brady was an accomplished church cantor and after retirement, became an entrepreneur.
She is remembered as a spirited woman who spoke freely of her views on issues, all the while maintaining a great Irish humor.
Predeceased by her second husband, Sherburne F. Mace, she leaves two daughters, Pamela Brady-Magoon and husband Roy C. Magoon Jr., of Windham, Paula Brady and her husband Neil Hunt and two loving grandchildren, Addison Hunt and Tennyson Hunt of Reading, MA., sister Claire Russo of Venice, FL.,step-children Nancy Mace of MD., Ralph Mace of RI, and many loving cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral from The Diaz-Healy Funeral Home, 107 South Broadway, Opposite St. Patrick Church, South Lawrence.
Calling hours, Sunday, March 17, from 2:30 to 4 PM. A Funeral Service will take place in the funeral home’s South Chapel at 4 PM.
Burial at a later date is private.
