Pelham, NH — Richard J. Donnelly, 61, loving father, died on Friday September 13, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., after injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born in Woburn, Mass., on August 8, 1952, and was a son of the late Joseph and Alice (Johnston) Donnelly. He was raised in Billerica, before moving to Methuen, where he raised his family.
Mr. Donnelly was employed as a teacher at the Locke Middle School in Billerica, where he taught math and computers for more than 36 years, until his retirement in 2012, to Little Island Pond in Pelham, N.H. He was also a well-known and respected coach for the Billerica High School basketball and football teams. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Union, and a Fitchburg State alumnus.
He is survived by two loving daughters and their husbands, Taryn Matatall and her
husband, Christopher, of Haverhill, Kierstyn DeWolfe and her husband, Paul, of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Joseph W. Donnelly and his wife, Jamie, of Billerica; three sisters, Frances J. Duby of Tewksbury, Christine Piche and her husband, Bruce, of Sandown, N.H.; and Joelle Donnelly of Lowell; a nephew, Brian Duby; a niece, Alissa Duby; several grand-nieces and grandnephews, Brian Jr., Daniel, McKayla, Matty, and Paige Duby, and John, Amanda and Emily Tierney. Mr. Donnelly is also survived by his beloved girlfriend, Luanne Diodati of Salem, N.H.; and his former wife, Carolyn Williams of Merrimack, Mass.; and several close family friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Road, Billerica, from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m., in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
