Methuen — Evangelina Miguel Melo, 96, passed away September 24, 2013, at Holy Family in Methuen. She was born in Terceira Acores, Portugal, and was the daughter of the late Angelo Miguel and Maria (Pimental) Severiano, and was the widow of Eduardo Melo.
She was an Elementary school teacher in Portugal and a seamstress before coming to the United States in 1975 where she worked as a seamstress at the Polo Factory in Lawrence for many years before retiring. Her favorite things were her Family, cooking, sewing and her gardening of flowers. Evangelina was a former member of St. Peter and Paul Church and was a member of the Lawrence Portuguese Club.
She is survived by her children, Eduarda Leal and her husband, Edwin, of Methuen, Heilo Melo and his wife, Teresa, and Joseph Melo and his wife, Diolinda, all of Salem, N.H.; a son-in-law, Joseph Borges of Fall River, Mass. She leaves her grandchildren, Malinda Borges, Danny Melo, Michael Melo, Debora Rego and her husband, Dario, and Melissa Melo; her great-grandchildren, Alex, Anthony and Aryana Frizado and Gavin Husson. She also leaves 4 nephews and 3 nieces. She was predeceased by her daughter, Telma Borges, who passed away 6 months ago and her brothers, Raul and Adelino Pimental.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours Friday, September 27, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Her funeral Mass will be Saturday, September 28, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St., Lawrence. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
