North Andover — Uwe H. Hemp, 66, of North Andover, Mass., passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Born in Germany, he graduated from Lawrence High School and the University of Lowell. Uwe served in the U.S. Marines, and received the National Defense Medal, the Rifle Marksman Badge, and was honorably discharged from service. For four-and-a-half years, he was an electrical engineer with Raytheon in Tewksbury, and for 10 years, at Sun Micro Systems in Burlington.
He was an avid hockey player, scuba diver, guitar player, and hiker. Uwe enjoyed photography, playing golf, sky diving, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Uwe leaves his wife of 44 years, Sharlene M. (Roy) Hemp of North Andover. He is also survived by his mother, Erika Hemp, of North Andover; one son, Douglas K. Hemp and his wife, Amanda Kennedy of Methuen; two sisters, Regina Cole and her husband, Phil, of Gloucester, Mass., and Dagmar Hemp of Chelsea, Mass.; grandchildren, Kerrigan and Madilyn Hemp; and many nieces and nephews.
Uwe was the son of the late Herbert Hemp.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours for family and friends will be on Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Funeral services will be on Friday, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with burial to follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Andover.
