Cotuit, MA — Michael Philip Solomon, 55, died of cancer on October 3, 2013, at Cape Cod Hospital, with his beloved wife, Marianne, by his side.
Michael was born in Heidelberg, Germany, on October 8, 1957, to Toufic J. and Phyllis Houska Solomon. He and his family lived in North Carolina before moving to Lawrence in 1961. During his junior high and high school years, Michael played football for the Lawrence High Lancers. He was a talented musician and loved playing the drums. Michael's hobbies included music and swimming. Prior to his retirement, Michael worked as a landscaper and for the City of Lawrence.
In May of 2012, Michael was reunited with his childhood sweetheart. Michael and Marianne were married in August of 2012. They made their home in Cotuit. Michael loved living on Cape Cod. His only regret was being so far from his son, Mikey, and family. Michael and his wife swam regularly, enjoying the many lakes, ponds and ocean beaches of Cape Cod. Off-season, Michael and Marianne swam at the fitness club where he enjoyed the spa and facilities. As his illness progressed, Michael maintained his infectious positive attitude and well-known sense of humor. Everyone he met at the club, Beth Israel, and Cape Cod Hospital, were charmed by his easygoing, friendly manner. His stepdaughter, Kelly, affectionately dubbed him the "BFG," for Big Friendly Giant. During his last year, Michael and Marianne lived fully, traveling to New Hampshire, Martha's Vineyard and to Boston museums. He loved having dinners on the beach with his wife. They attended many concerts including, The Rolling Stones. Michael was a lifelong fan of the Stones. Michael's greatest gifts were his big heart and his ability to make friends.To know Michael was to love him, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
