Dover, NH — John A. Hutchins, Jr., age 89, longtime Dover resident, died peacefully Wednesday evening at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, NH, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Amesbury, August 29, 1924, he was the son of the late John A. and Mary (Snow) Hutchins, Sr. He grew up in Merrimac, where he attended Merrimac schools.
A proud veteran of World War II, John served with the United States Army Air Corps from December 7, 1942 until his honorable discharge on October 1, 1945. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post of Merrimac.
He worked for Franklin Plating Company of Dover, NH where he retired as a manager after 44 years of service.
John was a hard working man, who loved his family and was especially fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also a very kind-hearted individual, ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Ruth O. (Christianson) Hutchins, who died March 18, 1999, he leaves behind his dedicated family - daughter, Linda L. Small of Dover, NH; three grandchildren, Matthew Small and wife, Marianne; Stephanie Small and husband, Kurt Kelley, and Abigail (Small) Pinkham and husband, Ryan; and five great-grandchildren, Jenna and Madison Small, Rylan and Caden Pinkham and Sam Kelley, who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by a sister, Catherine Comley along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by five sisters and a brother, Florence Welch, Winifred Bergeron, Mae Baxter, Frances Emmert, Harriet Cooke and Albert Hutchins.
ARRANGEMENTS: An hour of visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, from 10 to 11 A.M. at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, followed by a Graveside Service at 11:30 A.M. at Locust Grove Cemetery, Locust Grove Road, Merrimac, MA.
