Methuen — Mr. George Rippe, 89, of Methuen, died on Friday, November 1, 2013, at his home. He is survived by a nephew, Francis Rapisardi of Methuen; a niece, Sheryl David and her husband, Jerome, of Wakefield, N.H.; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends. George was born in Lawrence to the late Herman and Stella (Barry) Rippe. He was predeceased by a sister, Doris, and her husband, Alfred Rapisardi; a brother, Roger “Herman” Rippe; and a nephew, John Rapisardi.
He attended local schools and he was inducted into the Navy in 1943. He served on the USS Baldwin for three years before he was honorably discharged in 1946.
George was self-employed, and his passion was artistic billiards. He was the former owner of the Golden Cue, which was located at 539 Hampshire Street in Lawrence. He hosted many tournaments throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He was inducted as a Hall of Fame Player at the New England Pool and Billiards Hall of Fame in Providence. He has been mentioned in many books and magazines for his talent with artistic billiards. George will be missed by many.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visiting period from 10 to 11 a.m., on Tuesday, November 12, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., in the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen.
