Eastham, MA — Jim Meckel passed away on Saturday, Novemebr 9, 2013. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, June, his spouse of 49 years. He leaves behind four children, their spouses, and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by their son, Mark Francis Meckel, who died during infancy.
Jim served in the Air Force for four years. He then graduated with honors from Tri-State University. He spent his career working as an electrical engineer until his retirement in 1998. Jim worked on the guidance system for the Apollo Project. He also worked for Raytheon, Wang Labs and Computer Products.
During retirement, Jim was a senior AmeriCorps volunteer for four years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes in Wellfleet, where he was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Society, Parish Visitor Program, and served as a Eucharist Minister. He was always eager to help with any activities, or come to the aid of those in need. His other volunteer activities included working at AIM Thrift Shop and LOCAL lunch. He enjoyed being with his family, woodworking and creating original wood,crafts from driftwood. He will be remembered for his quick wit and spontaneous sense of humor, as he brought joy to others.
