Haverhill — Joseph A. Leone Jr., 88, died Monday, February 24, at the Holy Family Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Leone was born in Lawrence, the son of Joseph A. Sr. and Celeste (Valletti) Leone.
Joseph was the former owner of J.A. Leone & Sons, heating oil distributors. In the 1970s he was a successful Real Estate Developer and very involved in the Lawrence Plains area where he developed Parkside Apartments West and Elm Towers. Most recently retired in 2012 as Security Supervisor for Ferncroft Towers Condominiums in Danvers, Mass.
A former longtime member of the Methuen Board of Trade, Mr. Leone was also former president of the Lawrence and Lowell Home Builders Association, a member of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, the Better Home and Heat Council as well as the New England Fuel Institute.
During World War II and while aboard the USS Major in the Pacific and European theaters, Joe served his country in the United States Navy before being honorably discharged at war's end.
Joe is survived by sons, Joseph A. Leone III and his wife, Theresa (Labelle) Leone, of Methuen, Kenneth A. Leone of Methuen and daughter, Celeste M. Leone Ulrich and her husband, Richard Ulrich of Williston, Fla., and So. Dennis, Mass.; brothers, Gerald J. of Methuen, Thomas A. of South Lawrence; sister, Mary Johns of Newburyport; grandchildren, Elisa Jordan, Bridgette Pacheco, Christine Leone Hamel, Kenneth A. Leone, Jr. and Kim Joslin; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Kellen, Aidan, Gabriella, Alexandra, Brian, Jack and Will; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends will be warmly received on Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., in Methuen.
Funeral Services will take place on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. from the funeral home, with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
