Barbara Owens

Georgetown — Barbara (Kent) Owens, 81, died at home, after a brief illness, with her family and dear friend at her bedside.

She was born on April 14, 1932, in Byfield, Mass., brought to Georgetown the same day, and where she became a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of Herbert and Alice (Millett) Kent.

After graduating from Perley High School in 1951, she worked as a lifeguard at American Legion Beach, where she met her soul mate and husband of 44 years, the late Kenneth B. Owens. She later worked for Paul W. James Insurance. After her husband became the Town of Georgetown Treasurer, Collector and Town Clerk, she worked part-time for him. She was an active member of the Erie Fire Association Auxiliary and the Georgetown High Booster Club.

She leaves a son, Brian and his wife, Claudia, of Newburyport, Mass.; a son, Scott of Boston; a son, Paul and his girlfriend, Laurette Creasey of Georgetown; a son, Kris and his wife, Nicole, of Union, N.H.; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her lifelong, best friend, Mary-Jo Haskell of Hampton, N.H.

ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no calling hours. Following cremation, a private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
