North Andover, MA — Young-Hee Kim, age 66, of North Andover, Mass., passed away at hospice in Cambridge, Mass., on Monday, August 20, 2013. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Kook-Jin Kim, who preceded her in death on January 27, 2009. She is survived by her two children, Dr. John P. Kim, and Dr. Patricia Kim, both of Boston, as well as three sisters, a nephew and four nieces.
Young-Hee was born in Seoul, South Korea, on February 25, 1947, and graduated from the Catholic University of Korea as a registered nurse. She emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1970s - the first of her family to do so, after finding employment as an operating room nurse in rural Georgia, where she quickly grew to love her adopted country. She met her husband while he was in dental school at Tufts University, and they married in 1975. They moved to Lawrence, Mass., in 1985, to open a successful private practice. There, Young-Hee worked as a nurse and office manager for 24 years, until her husband's passing. More recently she worked at the ValleyWorks Career Center in Lawrence.
North Andover, was her home for many years, where she lovingly raised her family, and where she was a member of Saint Michael Parish.
Young-Hee was a caring wife and a devoted mother, whose generous spirit and sharp wit will be deeply missed.
According to her wishes, funeral services will be private.
