Haverhill — Joseph Drayton, 77, of Haverhill, died on Saturday at Colonial Heights Nursing Home, Lawrence.
He was born and educated in Allendale, S.C., on November 16, 1935, and was the son of the late Jesse and Grace (Hall) Drayton.
He moved to Haverhill in the 1950s, and was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, Haverhill, where he was a Deacon, and met his wife of 27 years. He was employed for a short time at the former Western Electric. Mr. Drayton owned and operated JD Carpentry, Haverhill. Mr. Drayton was an accomplished harmonica player.
His survivors include his wife, Mary (Ewell) Drayton of Haverhill; his children, Theresa M. Drayton-Harris of Haverhill, James Drayton of Haverhill, Joseph S. Drayton of New Sweden, Maine, William J. Drayton of Pittsfield, Cecelia G. Drayton of Haverhill, Benjamin A. Drayton of Haverhill, Aundra A. Drayton of Caribou, Maine, and Andrew J. Drayton of Haverhill; two sisters, Edith (Drayton) Wilson of Garnet, and Joseph’s twin sister, Mary (Drayton) Lomick of Durham, N.C.; two grandchildren, Isaiah J. Drayton and Alana J. Colon; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral Service on Friday afternoon, August 30, at 1 p.m., in Calvary Baptist Church, Haverhill. Calling hours will precede the funeral service on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., at the church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Arrangements are by the H.L.
