William J. Willett, 86


Methuen, MA — William J Willett, 86, a resident of Methuen, Mass., died at his home peacefully as he wished, on Friday, August 30, 2013.

He was born in Lawrence, Mass, on March 22, 1927, to Albert and Marian (Herlihy) Willett. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence. Mr. Willett proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a land surveyor for many years, until his retirement. He was a painter, gardener, and craftsman, he was an avid Patriots and Red Sox Fan, he was known to have a sharp wit, and was an important part of his neighborhood, and served as a mentor to many of the neighborhood children. He was also a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Lawrence.

He was one of seven children and is survived by his two sisters, Elizabeth Wright of Haverhill, and Eileen LaFrance, and many nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 9 a.m., and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass that will follow at 10 a.m., on Monday, September 2, in St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, Lawrence. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 Merrimack St. Lawrence, MA 01843.
