Andover — Benjamin Hartwell Stafford, 81, passed away on October 11, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 8, 1932, in Andover, to Susan (Bridge) and David Stafford. Ben was the youngest of three children. He is preceded in death by his brother, David; and sister, Ruth. He attended Andover Public Schools, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston University. Ben was also a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Gillette in Boston as a benefits manager.
Ben had a love for family gatherings. Whether it be planning a reunion, or Sunday breakfast with his wife and children, he embraced it. One of his favorite projects was researching the family genealogy. On the weekends, he and his wife would take rides to find Irish porcelain, or clocks, and come home with a story for us. He had the gift of gab, and a wealth of knowledge. If you had the opportunity to speak with Ben you always walked away knowing something new. He also never forgot a face, wherever he went, he saw someone he knew.
Ben is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ann (Furness) Stafford; and his children, Marsha Ann Stafford, Kenneth Hartwell Stafford, Pamela Louise Stafford, and Sandra Lynn (Stafford) Lajoie and her husband, Stephen Paul Lajoie. He also was “Bampy” to his grandchildren, Sean Paul Lajoie, Alexis Helen Stafford, Deric Benjamin Lajoie, Stephanie Lynn Lajoie and Alecia Ann Stafford.
Honey, you are the love of my life ... Dad you taught us so much ... Bampy you always laughed with us.
