Hampstead, NH — Walter E. “Wally” Roberts II, 60, of Hampstead, N.H., died Friday, October 18, at Boston Medical Center with his family by his side. Wally was born and raised in Lawrence and was a 1971 graduate of Lawrence High School. He attended Keene State College and graduated from Boston State College. He was a teacher, mentor, track and field and football coach for many years at Pinkerton Academy where he retired in 2012. That year, Wally was recognized as a Coach of the Year and inducted into the Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame. He was an avid sports fan and athlete; he held the LHS pole vault record for 21 years. He loved music, golf, the Red Sox and the Patriots.
Wally enjoyed spending time with friends and family, but especially his wife and best friend, Tricia. He looked forward to annual trips to Hermit Island in Bath, Maine, and Pawtuckaway State Park in Raymond, N.H., with his nieces and nephews. He loved summers at Salisbury, Seabrook and Wells Beach, both working as a lifeguard and vacationing with his family. He continued his life-saving skills on numerous occasions during his later years at the beach. Wally was the founder of the annual Roberts Family and Friends Summer Golf Classic in Bethlehem, N.H. He was a great friend, brother, uncle and teammate. He was like a second father to his nieces and nephews. Wally took interest in everyone he met; he always looked at the good in people. Wally and Tricia welcomed so many to their home over the years, creating terrific lifelong memories for many.
Wally was the son of the late Dorothy (Adams) and Walter C. Roberts. His family members include his beloved wife and best friend, Tricia (Lucas) Roberts of Hampstead, N.H. He leaves his brothers, Gary and wife Susanne of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Peter and wife Roxanna of Miami, Fla., and Thomas and wife Joanne of Methuen. He leaves his sisters, Gail Roberts of Methuen, his twin sister, Wendy and husband Thomas Ricker of San Diego, Calif., and Susan Bonacorsi of Methuen. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Mickey Lucas and his wife, Lauren, of Salem, N.H.; his sisters-in-law, Terri Fleming of Lawrence and Judy Lucas of Methuen; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Carrie, Michael, Jenna, Amy, Kate, Michael and Tony; along with great-nieces, nephew and cousins.
