Lawrence Ma — Augusto F. Pinheiro (Gus), 63, went into his eternal rest on September 23, 2013, in Port St Lucie, Fla., where he resided for the past four years.
Born in Faial Azores, son of Augusto and Maria C. Pinheiro, Gus immigrated to the U.S. in 1961 with his family and settled in Lawrence. Gus was the owner of Pinheiro Superette for many years and was well-known in the local area. Gus played a big part of the local community known for this endless smile kind heart and willingness to come to the aid of anyone who needed it. Gus went on to relocate to California’s Bay Area in 1977. Gus maintained his Portuguese heritage and become a big part of the Portuguese community and president of the Holy Ghost Society in Union City for many years. Gus was also an avid sports fan and card player especially 45’s which he played online with his brother.
A dedicated loving family man and friend, Gus will be sadly missed by many. He will be remembered for his good humor and dedication to help everyone. With sorrowful hearts, Gus leaves three daughters and son-in-law, Linda (George) Valine, Diane (Michael) Vale and Debbie (Berto) Calero; stepmother, Maria L Pinheiro (Madrinha); sisters, brothers and spouses, Noelia (Manuel) Carvalho, Louisa Azevedo, Teresa (Oscar) Hernando, Estela (Braulio) Azevedo. Mario Pinheiro, Manuel (Eugenia) Pinheiro; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Gus was predeceased by his parents, Augusto and Maria do Carmen Pinheiro, and brother-in-law, Jose Azevedo.
ARRANGEMENTS: A one-month anniversary Mass will be offered at St Lucy’s Church, Merrimack Street, Methuen, on Sunday October 27, at 11 a.m.
