Lawrence — Barbara M. Lewis, 74, died on Friday, November 1, 2013, while residing at the Nevin’s Home in Methuen, Mass. She was a longtime resident of Lawrence, Mass.
Born in Boston on November 10 1938, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Warren. Barbara was a graduate of Wakefield High School and attended Northeastern University and Northern Essex Community College. She worked for many years as a retail account clerk, and recently dedicated herself to providing in-home care for those in need.
Barbara overcame the challenges of battling with multiple sclerosis and sight impairment, and still remained a champion of providing for those in need. She was a regular volunteer for hospice services. She was also a devoted advocate for animal welfare, and was involved in several Greyhound rescue projects. She never hesitated to care for an animal in need of a good home and a loving environment. An independent spirit, Barbara loved to garden, travel and spend time with family.
Barbara was a devoted communicant of the Forest Street Union Church, UCC in Methuen, and greatly enjoyed the fellowship and opportunities provided by her friends in the church community. Barbara will be fondly remembered for her selfless devotion for those in need and benevolent spirit.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews; Richard B. Lewis and his wife, Cheryl, of Rumney, N.H., Charlene Lewis Steele and her husband, John, of Madbury, N.H., Pamela DiMartino and her husband, David, of Salem, N.H., Maribeth Nickola of Sandown, N.H., David Lewis of Salem, N.H., and Nicole Henderson and her husband, Jeff, of Nashua, N.H. She is also survived by nine grandnieces and grandnephews; and her sister-in-law, Patricia Lewis of Salem.
In addition to her mother, she is predeceased by her husband of 25 years, James S. Lewis.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends are invited to visit on Friday, November 8,from 10 to 11 a.m., at The Forest Street Union Church, Forest Street, Methuen, Mass. A celebration of Barbara’s life will follow at 11 a.m., on Friday, at the church.
