Mary M. Carroll, 70

Manchester, New Hampshire — Mary M. Carroll, 70, of Manchester, NH, died November 3, 2013, at Catholic Medical Center, after a sudden illness. Born in Lawrence, MA on May 12, 1943, she was the daughter of Francis E. and Margaret M. (O'Connor) Griffin. She was raised in North Andover, MA. She later resided in Billerica, MA, and Arlington, VA before moving to Manchester, NH.

She graduated from North Andover High School. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Merrimack College.

Early in her career, she was a teacher at Sacred Heart Grammar School, Lawrence. She worked at the Internal Revenue Service in Andover and retired as a Supervisory Appeals Officer from the IRS Headquarters in Washington, DC with thirty years of service.

Mary was very devoted to her faith and was a communicant of Saint Pius X Church. She was an active member of the funeral consolers as well as the ladies guild of the parish. In addition, she was a volunteer docent at the Currier Museum in Manchester, NH for several years.

She loved to travel. One of her favorite sayings was "Have suitcase will travel just say where and when." After retirement, Mary's travels took her to Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, the Holy Land and Hawaii.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, her family was the center of her life. She will be remembered for her warm smile and selfless ways.

She was married to Kenneth J. Carroll. He died April 24, 2005.

Family members include her son, Sean F. Scanlon of Cleveland, OH; her daughter, Kathleen M. Scanlon of Billerica, MA; two grandchildren, Christopher and Lisa; her sister, Catherine J. Burkhart and her husband, Philip J. of South Lawrence, MA; and four nephews. She will be missed by all who knew her.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH.

The funeral will be held Friday with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Saint Pius X Church, Candia Road, Manchester, NH.

Burial will take place in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
