Methuen, MA — Ruth Eleanor (Lodge) Crompton, 88, died peacefully at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, on November 4, 2013. Born on December 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Methuen Police Captain A. Milton Lodge and Mary (Kern) Lodge, widow of Arthur Crompton, and mother of the late David Arthur Crompton.
She was a graduate of Edward F. Searles High School in Methuen, class of 1943, and the McIntosh School of business. Employed for over 30 years by the town of Methuen Assessor's Office, Eleanor retired in 1987 from the position of principal clerk.
Eleanor was a member of St. George's EPM Primitive Methodist Church in Methuen, where she was a member of the choir, and the North Cove Yacht Club in Derry, N.H.
She is survived by two beloved grandsons, David Arthur Crompton of Lawrence, and John A. Sullivan of Methuen; a great-grandson, Nikolas Fregeau of Templeton, Mass.; brother, John A. Lodge and wife, Polly, of Bangor, Maine; daughter-in-law, Joanne Zegarelli Crompton of Newton, Mass.; sister-in-law, Marjorie Lodge of Methuen; nieces, Valerie Duffield of North Andover, Mass., Kimberly Walters of Burlington, Mass., Virginia Eastman Michaud of Danville, N.H., and Susan Hicks of Bangor; and nephews, Stephen Lodge of Jaffrey, N.H., John Lodge of Bangor, and Edward Crosbie of Puyallup, Wash. She was also predeceased by her brother, Alfred S. Lodge. "Aunt Eleanor" was also loved by many great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Greystone Farm and the ICU nurses and staff at Holy Family Hospital for their compassionate care of Eleanor during the past few months.
ARRANGEMENTS: There are no calling hours. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 13, at 11 a.m., at the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home in Methuen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, or the Kidney Foundation.
