Raymond A. Klinger, Jr., 94


IPSWICH — Raymond A. Klinger, Jr., 94, of Topsfield Road, husband of Frances D. (Irving) Klinger, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, in his home after a brief illness.

Born in Ipswich July 16, 1918, son of the late Raymond A. and Robena (Bruce) Klinger, he was a 1935 graduate of the former Manning High School and a lifelong Ipswich resident, a proud “Townie.” At age sixteen he owned a bicycle shop in town, and joined the Sixth Army Air Corps during WWII. He worked for twenty-five years at Hayward Hosiery in Ipswich followed by twenty-five years as a probation officer for the Ipswich District Court.

Ray was predeceased by his first wife Kathryn G. (Morgan) Klinger in 1986, marrying his present wife Frances in 2000. In addition to Frances he is survived by Joyce Goldthwaite and husband Rev. Thomas of Chelmsford, Bruce Klinger and wife Julie of Gilford, NH; grandchildren Allen and wife Abigail, Michael and wife Kellie, Kathryn Joy (Goldthwaite) Longo and husband Matt; three great-grandchildren; three step-children, Paul Kneeland, Maureen Blake, Anne Haley, their five children and four grandchildren; a sister Eleanor “Lee” McCoy of FL; a brother-in-law G. Edward Morgan of FL; sister-in-law Nancy Hugen and husband Walter of TX; former daughter-in-law Linda Klinger of Ipswich and many nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late John O. Klinger of Ohio.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Celebration of His Life will be held 11 am Saturday, October 20, in the Immanuel Baptist Church, 45 Central St., Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Arrangements by the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. Ray donated his body to Boston University School of Medicine.
