Rosa Maritza Teresa Maldonado Castro

Lawrence, MA — Rosa Maritza Teresa Maldonado Castro also known as "Maritza Camire", passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2012, surrounded by her family. She endured a long and difficult battle with leukemia since June, 2011. Maritza was born November 5, 1944 in Villa Vasquez, Dominican Republic to the late Altagracia Maldonado and Dr. Rafael Castro. She moved to the United States in the 1950's and settled in Lawrence in 1971, the placed she called home until her passing. Maritza loved to bake and decorate which led her to the opening of her own gift shop, "Gift of Paradise" on Essex Street in Lawrence. Maritza truly enjoyed her profession and remained very creative until her last breath. She also worked for many years at the Lawrence Credit Union and the Prudential Bank. She was the founder and Director of the "Latino's Meal" at the Lawrence Senior Center, where she dedicated much of her time. Maritza was an active member of the Lawrence Latin Lions Club and devoted much of her time and efforts to other community related events and fundraisers. Despite her extensive medical history, she always found time to help others. Maritza was the heart & soul of her family. During her spare time she also enjoyed traveling, cooking & baking, dancing & spending quality time with her family & friends. She was always very energetic and full of life. During her last months of life, she made the best of the time she spent with her friends at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Martiza is survived by her three children: Jose Vega and his family, Lorie Mendoza & Lydia Vega. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Marques & Mekhi Mendoza; Corina Cornejo; & Raphael, Gabriella and Luis Lara all of Lawrence. She will be missed by her sister and caretaker, Sarah Castro, as well as several siblings, family, firends and the hundreds whose lives she touched.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at FARRAH FUNERAL HOME 133 Lawrence St; Lawrence, MA. A funeral mass will be offered Friday, October 19, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 300 Hampshire St; Lawrence, MA. Donations in Maritza's memory may be made to the "Maritza Camire Memorial Fund"
