Methuen, MA — Robert T. McCarthy, 81, of Methuen, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at the Lawrence General Hospital on Tuesday, October 23, 2012.
The son of the late Daniel J. and Catherine (Lee) McCarthy, Robert was born in Haverhill on September 1, 1931. Robert was a graduate of St. James Grammar and St. James High School in Haverhill. He enlisted into the United States Navy in 1949, serving for five years, during the Korean War. He was employed as a Layout Operator at Western Electric in North Andover, retiring after 35 years of service. He moved to the Greater Lawrence area after his marriage. He was an active and devout member of the former St. Francis Church of Lawrence, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. After the closing of St. Francis, he became a member of Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and usher. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Communications Workers of America, AFL-CIO. He enjoyed following local sports teams.
The husband of the late Virginia C. (Kibirstis) McCarthy, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage until her death on October 2, 2008, Robert is survived by two sons, Michael T. McCarthy and his wife Lori of Salem, NH, and Robert J. McCarthy of Methuen; a daughter and her husband, Beverly A. and Joel Winslow of Haverhill; two grandchildren, Cara M. McCarthy and Sean M. McCarthy of Salem, NH; a brother, Raymond McCarthy of Haverhill; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was the brother of the late John McCarthy, the late Joseph McCarthy, the late Edward McCarthy, the late Donald McCarthy and the late Claire Souder.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church—Corpus Christi Parish, Essex St., Lawrence. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. Relatives and friends may call Monday, October 29, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Boles Memorial-Baron-McAuliffe-Yameen Funeral Home, 184 Jackson Street, Lawrence, MA 01841 (978-686-0386).
