North Andover — JAMES C. ROOP, JR., 82, of North Andover, died peacefully Wednesday, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA.
James (Jim), son of the late James C., and Rebecca (Haigh) Roop, Sr., was born April 25, 1930, in Washington, DC.
Raised in New Canaan, CT, Jim attended New Canaan Country Day School, Westminster School, and graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University. Married in 1958, Jim worked as a design and construction engineer, in New York and Massachusetts. Prior to his retirement, Jim was a consultant for Boston’s “Big Dig”.
Jim will be remembered most for his love and dedication to family and friends, and living life to the fullest every day. He was an avid outdoorsman, with a true love of the White Mountains and NE seacoast. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, day-trips to the ocean, white-water kayaking, competing in road races at many NE race tracks, including Lime Rock Park, CT, and horseback riding events with the United States Eventing Association. Jim was also a member of the Andover Sportsman’s Club.
Jim will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Noell) Roop of North Andover, brother D. Haigh Roop of Honolulu, HI, cousin Mary H. Hutchins of Norwich, VT, brother-in-law David B. Noell of Clearwater, FL, daughter Cindy Walsh, and her husband Chris of Framingham, MA, daughter Lee Anne Webb and her husband Michael of Reading, MA, and grandchildren, Katherine, James, Eric and Colin.
ARRANGEMENTS: There are no visiting hours. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
