North Andover — Frederick D. Peterson died at Lawrence General Hospital on March 2, 2013 surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness. Professor Peterson taught Sociology at Merrimack College for 42 years and lectured at Northeastern University for 10 years.
Ted earned his Bachelor’s degree from Merrimack College and his Master’s degree in Sociology from Boston College. He was also a member of various professional organizations, including a past member of the Board of Trustees of Family Services.
Ted was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family and was especially fond of Cape Cod and the White Mountains. He was a devout parishioner of St. Michael's Church.
Ted enjoyed being involved in North Andover town sports, and was a past president of the North Andover Boosters Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joan T. (Matthews) Peterson, and his children, John and wife Linda of Amherst NH, Susan M. Norton of Salem NH, Nancy J. Pierro of Andover, MA and Michael S. Peterson of North Andover, MA. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren Melissa, Alyssa, Ryan, Olivia, Joey and Michael.
He is survived by a much loved extended family, Edna Dankens of Revere, George and Kathy Matthews of Manchester-by-Sea, Alice Matthews of Revere, Ann Regan of Belmont, and Dr. Wallace Matthews and his wife Dr. Sherry Loo of Honolulu and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He also is survived by a sister Constance (Peterson) Austin and her husband Robert of Charlotte, NC.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Conte Funeral Home 17 Third St. North Andover, MA 01845. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church in North Andover followed by burial in Ridgewood Cemetery also in North Andover.
