Philip A. Nardone Sr., 80

Andover — Philip A. Nardone Sr., 80, of Andover, passed away on November 23, 2013, surrounded by his family at the VA Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of the late Michael and Philomena (Cantiola) Nardone. Raised and educated in Lawrence, he was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1951. An outstanding athlete, he lettered in all sports, leading to a football scholarship from Villanova University. Instead, Mr. Nardone enlisted in the Army, serving in the Korean War until 1955.

Shortly thereafter, Mr. Nardone married the love of his life, Carol A. DelliColli, on June 26, 1955, and began a life together that would last the next 58 years.

Mr. Nardone had an entrepreneurial spirit, moving successfully from one business venture to the next. As a young man, he and his father started Nardone & Sons Oil Co. After several decades, he established Nardone Realty, focusing on residential and commercial real estate ventures throughout the Merrimack Valley. He was a lifelong member of the Andover community, and after his retirement, volunteered his time at the Andover Senior Center.

Mr. Nardone had four passions in his life; family, religion, gardening, and golf. He raised and loved his five children and held a special place in his heart for each of them. As the Nardone family grew, he was there every step of the way, cheering on a child, or grandchild in every endeavor. His proudest moments were spent at the family beach house for a weekend of relaxation, capped off with a Sunday meal! A lifelong member of the St. Augustine’s Parish in Andover, he could be found weekly at the 4 p.m. Saturday Mass. He was an avid golfer, competing in many local tournaments, and a member at several clubs in Merrimack Valley and Sarasota, Fla., where the family had a home for many years. His love of gardening began as a young boy, surrounded by his extended family, learning tips from “the old country.” He passed many of them on to his children and grandchildren, and would spend hours of his time with his wife cultivating the fruits of his labor; Carol focused on flowers and Phil focused on vegetables and fruit.

The widower of Carol A. (DelliColli) Nardone, who died January 24, 2013, he leaves three sons; Philip A. Nardone Jr. and his partner, Scott Peltier, of Boston and Nantucket, David M. Nardone and his wife, Terra, of Windham, N.H., and Mark C. Nardone and his wife, Erin, of Andover; two daughters, Doreen M. Powell and her husband, Nelson M. Powell III of Tampa, Fla., and Gayle M. Nardone-Faro and her partner, Dennis A. Comeau of Wakefield; seven cherished grandchildren, Lindsay Faro, Tre Nardone, Christopher Nardone, Mark Nardone, Rachel Nardone, Nico Nardone, and Sofia Nardone; a sister, Geraldine Fusco and her husband, Jack, of Methuen; a brother, Michael of Ridgefield, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews and cousins throughout the Merrimack Valley.

ARRANGEMENTS: The family will greet friends and relatives at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, in St. Augustine’s Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, followed by a funeral Mass at 5:30 p.m. At the request of the family, burial will be private.
