Virginia M. (Cronin) O'Brien, 90

Haverhill — Virginia M. (Cronin) O’Brien, 90, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, August 20, at her home with her loving daughter by her side.

Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (McAuliffe) Cronin. A lifelong member of St. James Parish, she attended St. James Grammar School and was a graduate of St. James High School, class of 1940.

Mrs. O’Brien was employed at the Western Electric Co. in North Andover as a layout operator for twenty-two years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. In her spare time, Mrs. O’Brien enjoyed cross stitching, but her love for travel brought her to Ireland and Italy, trips she would fondly remember.

The widow of Robert E. O’Brien Jr., who passed away in 2005, she leaves her daughter, Mary E. Phaneuf, with whom she lived; a sister, Mary D. (Mrs. Frank) Regan; three cherished grandchildren, Robert “Rob” E. O’Brien IV and his wife, Cassandra, of Arlington, Va., Adam O’Brien and his fiancée, Katherine Cummings, of Epping, N.H., and Alex O’Brien, also of Epping, N.H.; a great-granddaughter, Alexxis O’Brien; several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her son, Robert E. O’Brien III; brothers, Leonard and Joseph Cronin and her sister, Elizabeth Cronin.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., (Route 125), Haverhill. Funeral services will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, Winter St., Haverhill. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Primrose St., Haverhill. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01841.
