Wilbur "Bill" Rokes, 87

North Andover, MA — Bill passed away June 29, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at his daughter, Janet’s home in Austin, Texas.

Bill called North Andover home all his life. He proudly served on the USS Bunker Hill during WWII. He married Norma (Twiss) Rokes in 1949. Together they raised five children.

Bill worked for Cashman's Service Station until his longtime friend, George Massey, got him into the North Andover School System. He worked in the school system doing the job he loved until his retirement in 1987. Bill and Norma enjoyed many years as part of the Turkey Town Trotters.

Predeceased by his wife, Norma of 45 years, Bill befriended Marion Allen and they spent 15 years as snow birds. He was predeceased by brothers, Gordon Rokes, Warren Rokes (his twin); sisters, Barbara Nihan and Gladys Morse. He will be sadly missed by his sister, Ida French; sons, Donald Rokes and wife, Kathy, David Rokes and wife, Dorothy; daughters, Mary Kendall and husband, Thomas, Janet Van Sickler, N. Joyce Patane and husband, Sebastian. Two in-laws who will also miss Bill are Cathy Fereday Rokes and Charles Van Sickler. Bill leaves behind 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of life will be held Friday, July 19, 10 a.m. at the North Parish Church in North Andover, Mass. Burial immediately following at Ridgewood Cemetery, North Andover, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Special Olympics.
