Haverhill, MA — Marguerite J. "Peg" Murphy of Haverhill, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at her residence, surrounded by her loving and supportive family.
Born in New Haven, Prince Edward Island, Canada on September 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Richard T. and Ann (Nolan) Murphy. She attended St. James School and graduated from Lawrence Academy of Beauty Culture in 1946. She owned and operated "Peggy's Salon" for over 50 years.
Peg had lived independently up until her recent short illness. She always enjoyed trips to the Dollar Store, Walmart and the " 99" with her best friend and sister, Mal.
Peg was a member of St. James Church and belonged to the Ladies Sodality and often took part in church functions, including volunteering for bingo and holiday fairs.
Anyone who met Peg immediately sensed her love and compassion for life and people. She was a faithful servant of God.
She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Hefferan of Plaistow, N.H.; three brothers, Joseph G. Murphy of Haverhill, Leo G. Murphy and his wife. Jackie. of Haverhill, and James F. Murphy and his wife, Mickey, of Newburyport. She also leaves over 25 nieces and nephews. Peg was predeceased by three brothers, Edward A., Richard J. and William L. Murphy; and her sister, Dorothy, in addition to brother-in-law, Bob Hefferan and sister-in-law, Peg Murphy.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, July 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Paul C. Rogers Family-Scatamacchia Funeral Home, 334 Main St., Haverhill, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. James Church, 185 Winter St., Haverhill. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill.
