Hampton, NH — Ann W. Hogan, 79, of Hampton, formerly of Saugus, Mass., died Monday, July 15, 2013, at Edgewood Centre, Portsmouth.
She was born February 23, 1934, in Lynn, Mass., a daughter of the late John E. and Esther (Allen) Walkey.
Ms. Hogan was raised in Saugus and graduated from Saugus High School with the Class of 1951. Following graduation, she then attended the University of New Hampshire.
She started her career working at the Boston Herald and later for the Hampton Union as well as other various newspapers in the seacoast area, once she moved to Hampton in 1985.
Ann was a dedicated volunteer for various organizations, some of which include the YMCA Camp Gundalow in Greenland, University of New Hampshire Arts Center and the Children’s Theater Project in Portsmouth.
Ann was a lifelong learner who enjoyed spending her summers in Windham and teaching knitting throughout the seacoast area. She also loved reading and walking at Hampton Beach, especially Plaice Cove.
Family members include her son, Matthew Hogan of Londonderry; daughter, Sue Ann Nolan of Portland, Maine; brothers, Edwin “Al” Walkey of Saugus, Mass., Richard Walkey of Arden, N.C.; sister, Thyra Whitford of Destin, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, in the Cliftondale Congregational Church, 50 Essex St., Saugus.
