Haverhill, MA — Marderos “Martin” Takessian of Haverhill, Mass., died Friday, April 26, 2013, at the age of 88, at the Armenian Nursing and Rehab Center in Jamaica Plain.
He was born on January 29, 1925, son of the late Sarkis and Narvig (Parsigian) Takessian.
He was the beloved husband of the late Dikranuhi “Dorothy” (Seferyan) Takessian who died March 15, 2010, and the brother of the late Rose Hilchey.
Martin is survived by his son Marty Takessian and his wife Leslie of Hollis, N.H., sister Isabelle “Zabelle” Sargent and her husband, Gardner, formerly of Groveland, Mass., two grandchildren, Mitch and Luke Takessian, as well as nieces and nephews Scott and Ronnie Hilchey and Janet and Ruth Sargent and several great nieces and nephews.
Martin was educated in the Haverhill school system. During World War II, he worked in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. For many years he was a tailor with his father in their family business. Prior to retirement, Martin worked at Western Electric for more than 29 years.
He was a member of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church in Haverhill, the Knights of Vartan, and was also a member of the Saggahew Lodge A.F. & A.M.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the calling hours on Wednesday, May 1 from 5 to 8 p.m., at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, MA. A service will be held at H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home on Thursday, May 2 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
