John M. Lambert, 70

Methuen — John M. Lambert, 70, of Methuen, Mass., died April 29, 2013, at Holy Family Hospital. He was born on March 25, 1943, to the late George and Mary Lambert of Methuen MA. He was a twin and second oldest of 16 children and worked to help support his family from an early age.

He attended Haverhill Trade and graduated from Lawrence High School. He attended Northeastern University in Boston studying Criminal Justice. John was drafted into the Navy during the Vietnam Era, a year after his marriage. He served aboard the destroyer class, USS Koelsh, and was honorably discharged in 1972 and received two medals. After the military, John spent time as a Head of Security for Filene's Dept. Stores where he had the opportunity to escort President Kennedy, as well as several famous actors, through the store. He headed up the building of the Filene's Warehouse in Natick, Mass. In his 70 years, he worked as a truck driver, a Friendly's Restaurant manager, a warehouse supervisor and human resource manager for Filene's. He spent many years helping grow his brother-in-law's business, Wel-Don Appliance. He finally retired after five years with the Department of Unemployment.

He and his wife were active in Worldwide Marriage Encounter for 39 years. They headed the Vicarate PreCana Program for 25 years. John loved to play cards, dance with his "bride," and travel. He even wrote a book, "Life - How To," which he never published, but would hand out chapters to friends and family.

Mostly, John will be remembered for the kindness he showed people. He always had a smile, he hugged everyone he met, and if you needed help in any way, he was always the first one there whether he knew you for 10 minutes, or 10 years. He loved people and enjoyed life. Some men achieve great things and achieve great recognition; but some men quietly do great things and never ask for anything in return. John was one of the latter.

John is survived by his loving wife, Norma (Corey) of 48 years; his two sons, Tim of California and Shawn and his wife, Laura, of Salem, N.H.; and two grandchildren, Christian and Sage. He also leaves his mother, Mary; his brothers, Joseph his twin, Tom and wife, Linda, Michael and his wife, Diane, Peter, James and his wife, Alana, David, the late George, and his wife, Sandra; his sisters, Mary Weber, Patricia and her husband, Rudy Parent, Ann Lambert, Eileen Ricci, Cynthia and her husband, Kevin Linehan, Jacqueline and her husband, Charles Berube, and Elizabeth and her husband, Thomas Tine; his sister-in-law, Ann and her husband, Michael Weldon; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, and the hundreds of people he dedicated his life to loving and helping. Very few men will be as sorely missed as he.
