Merrimac, MA — Paul George Denault, age 87, a lifelong resident of Merrimac, died April 30, 2013, at Methuen Village, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lillian M. (LaRochelle) Denault, who died September 17, 2009.
Born in Lowell on July 28, 1925, he was one of five children of the late Ernest J. and Rose A. (Gendreau) Denault. His family settled in Merrimac when he was a young child and he was educated in the Merrimac school system and graduated from Merrimac High School.
From high school he entered the U.S. Navy, serving from 1943 until his honorable discharge in January of 1946 with the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class.
He worked for many years for the former First National Food Stores until his retirement. Paul also enjoyed working at Hoyt’s Hardware in Merrimac after his retirement. Paul and Lil enjoyed many weekends going ballroom dancing and traveling.
Paul enjoyed doing yard work and tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed photography, woodworking, and home renovation projects. Many good times were always had on the family camping trips. He was an avid reader, a passion he followed throughout his life, and was always up for a challenging game of cribbage. Paul was a member of the Merrimac Senior Bowling League.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald P. Denault and wife, Marie, of Clermont, Fla., and Norman R. Denault and wife, Carol, of Merrimac; three daughters, Diane M. Puglisi and husband, Thomas, of Haverhill, Paula J. Smith and husband, Karl, of Groveland, and Denise A. Smith and husband, Keith, of Merrimac; along with 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Florence Sande and Claire Labbe, both of Merrimac; one brother, George Denault and wife, June, of Vermont; and several generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Denault of Florida.
ARRANGEMENTS: A period of visitation for family and friends will be held at Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, on Friday, May 3, 2013, from 10 to 11:15 a.m., immediately followed by funeral services at 11:30 a.m., with burial in Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac.
