Methuen, MA — Norman G. Turmel, 83, of Methuen, Mass., and New Smyrna Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Born in Methuen on July 29, 1929, the son of the late Amadee and Blanch (Lavertu) Turmel. He was raised in Methuen, Mass., and graduated from Methuen High School. He served in the National Guard and worked as an assembler at the Ford Factory. He was a buyer at Avco and also worked at Merrimack College.
His wife, Bella (Demers) Turmel, of 52 years predeceased him, plus his daughter, Theresa (Turmel) Whitaker. He is survived by his beloved children, Nancy (Turmel) Turco and her husband, Robert, of York, Maine, Michael and his wife, Kathleen, of Andover, Mass., Janet (Turmel) Morin and her husband, Gary, of Lutz, Fla., David of Methuen, Mass., Barbara (Turmel) Hildred of Methuen, Mass., Bruce and his wife, Tammie, of Alexandria, N.H., and Jeffrey and his wife, Christina, of Methuen, Mass.; two sisters, Cecile (Turmel) Payson of Methuen, Mass., and Dorothy (Turmel) St. Pierre of Lawrence, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his faithful companion of the last 11 years, Martha Vanlue of Connersville, Ind.
Norman enjoyed family gatherings, summers at Newfound Lake, spending the winters in Florida, and playing cards with family and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are kindly welcome to visitation on Monday in the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen, MA, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9 a.m. in St. Monica Parish, 214 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA.
