Edward J. Ouellette Jr., 83


Haverhill — Edward J. Ouellette Jr., 83, of Haverhill and Barefoot Bay, FL, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Amesbury, he was the son of the late Edward J. Ouellette Sr. and Lavinia B. (Souther) Gagnon. Raised in Haverhill by his aunt and uncle, the late Antoinette (Ouellette) Dufrense and her husband, Arthur. He attended St. Joseph Grammar School and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1949. Shortly after graduation he enlisted into the U.S. Air Force. A Korean War Veteran, Mr. Ouellette proudly served for four years as an air traffic controller, being honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant. He was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal, Japanese Occupation Medal, Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon his return, he continued his education at the Massachusetts Industrial Tech in Boston and graduated from Merrimack College in the Electrical Engineering program.

Mr. Ouellette was employed as an Engineering Supervisor in Quality Control, for over thirty-one years at the former Western Electric, and A T & T, in North Andover, retiring in 1986. As his accomplishments were many through his service to country and career, none were greater than the family he and his first wife, M. Lillian (Mascaro) Ouellette had raised together. After Lillian’s passing in 1990, Eddie was blessed once again in marriage to Sophie E. (Vargas) Perkins, he now added four more Perkins’ children to his family.

He leaves his wife of twenty-two years, Sophie E. (Vargas) Ouellette of Haverhill; 10 loving children, Edward J. Ouellette III and his partner, Mimi Sparrow, of Byfield, Danielle R. Mullen and her husband, Thomas, of Haverhill, Richard A. Ouellette and his wife, Robin, of Bradenton, FL, Vincent R. Ouellette and his wife, Lisa, of Haverhill, Ramona S. Valeri and her husband, Christopher, of Danville, NH and Barefoot Bay, FL, Angelle M. Duhaime and her husband, Bertrand, of Bradford and Bradenton, FL, Justin M. Ouellette and Hugo Mendez Morcate of Atlanta, GA, Christopher N. Ouellette and his wife, Michelle, of Bradford, Mary J. Valaskatgis and her husband, John, of Haverhill, Aimee Keohane and Leonard “Rugga” Barone of Gardner, KS. He also leaves 4 stepchildren, David Perkins and his wife, Maureen, of Haverhill, Linda Mulligan and her husband, Frank, of Dover, NH, Barry Perkins, and his wife, Paula, of Worcester, Timothy Perkins and his wife, Donna, of Haverhill; a total of 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Constance Williams and her husband, Jim; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Moynihan.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Sunday from 2 until 5 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., (Route 125), Haverhill. Funeral services will begin Monday morning at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill.
