Methuen, MA — Richard J. Tracy, 74, of Methuen, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 11, 2013, at home with his beloved cat, "Katherine the Great" by his side. Born in Tewksbury, MA, he was the adopted son of the late Alexander and Albina Demers of Methuen, MA. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1961. Shortly after, he began working at Malden Mills where he retired in 2002 after 40 years. In his early years, he enjoyed bowling in a local league and playing 45's. In retirement he was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed spending his days at Forest lake with many friends "solving the problems of the world" as he would put it. Every summer he planted a large vegetable garden, and took joy in giving away the ripened vegetables to family, friends, and neighbors. Uncle Dick was an animal lover and fondly cared for the many family dogs, cats, pigs, and bunnies. He was the type of man who would give you the shirt off of his back. He would never say no to anyone in need, and made a friend in everyone he met. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Raymond Demers and his wife, Jeanette, of Methuen, MA; his sisters, Jeanne Longtin, and her husband, Normand, of Methuen, MA, Mariette Carter of Methuen, MA, Violet Roy of Methuen, MA, Yolanda "Dixie" Brown of Brians Road, MD; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Jackie Batcheldar and brothers, Roland and Donald Demers.
