Plaistow — Guy L. Sawyer, 77, of Plaistow, passed away Monday, July 1, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill.
He was born in Revere on July 27, 1935, and was the son of the late Verna (Cutting) and Guy Ellsworth Sawyer. Guy was a graduate of Boston College High School, and served in the U.S. Navy.
Guy was active in the building and start up of Kimi Nichols Development Center, for which he donated the land. He was employed as a supervisor for Polaroid, was the former building inspector for Plaistow, N.H., and was a postal worker in the Plaistow Post Office. Guy was always giving a helping hand to others, donating his time helping the mentally challenged. He liked coin collecting, stamp collecting and farming. Guy was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Ann (Cody) Sawyer of Hampstead; his children, Shawn L. Sawyer of Charlotte, N.C., Joanne Jones of Hampstead, Guy Patrick Sawyer and his wife, Maggie L., of Sandown, Janine M. Sawyer-Standley of Atkinson, and Rebecca and her husband, Michael Tirabassi, of Wilbraham, Mass.; his brother, Robert Sawyer of Florida; sisters, Donna Black and Norma Rouleau, both of California; 24 grandchildren, Matthew, Meaghan, Kahleigh, Cody, Sydney, Shaehmus, Shawn, Molly, Jean, Christopher, Guy-Fletcher, Tom, Jennifer, Stephen, Jakub, Kyle, Kiara, Samuel, Ryan, Michael, Sawyer, Alex, Isabella and Nathaniel; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Helen Marie Sawyer and grandfather of the late Jon Councilman.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral on Saturday, July 6, at 8:30 a.m., from the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 8 Atkinson Depot Road, Plaistow. Interment will follow in the Atkinson Cemetery.
