Lawrence — Ngar Lee, 85, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Lawrence General Hospital. Ngar was born and educated in China, and was the son of the late York Sing Lee and Fong Yuen Kuen, and was the widower of Oi Chu (Yan) Lee. In 1958, he came to this country to New Britain, Conn. He worked as a chef at restaurants in the New Britain and Bridgeport area. In the early 1960s, he moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., to start a family, and owned his own restaurant. In 1973, he moved and settled in the Lawrence area and was a chef at the former China Lee Restaurant in South Lawrence until retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed, watching the Boston Celtics, going to Foxwoods Casino, where he enjoyed playing Pai Gow Poker and slot machines. He also enjoyed watching WWE wrestling on Monday and Friday nights, and reading his daily Chinese newspaper to keep informed with current affairs.
Ngar is survived by his sons, Gary Lee of Lawrence, and James Lee of Haverhill. He also leaves his siblings, his brother, Eddy Lee and his wife, Nancy, of Lawrence, his sister, Kuan Sin Lim and her late husband, John, of Sacramento, Calif., late sister, Debra Wong and her husband, Allen, of Newton, his brother, Norman Lee and late wife, Margaret, of Wilmington, brother, Raymond Lee and his wife, Maria, of North Andover, and his sister, Betty Miccioli and her husband, William, of Waltham; and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours on Wednesday July 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. A service of remembrance will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
