Haverhill, MA — Lillian R. (Marcotte) Gilbert, 82, of Haverhill, died on Sunday, July 8, 2013, at Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill. Born and raised in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Blanche O. (Champagne) Marcotte. She attended Haverhill public schools, and as a young woman, performed as a dancer and singer at local ballrooms and entertainment establishments. She also performed acrobatics with her late brother Norman.
Mrs. Gilbert worked as an assembler at the former Western Electric Co., and took time out from her working career to raise her children. She returned to the work force as a waitress at the former Norman’s Restaurant in Lafayette Square, Haverhill, which was owned and operated by her late brother. She later was employed at A T & T Technologies and for Lucent Technologies, North Andover, until her retirement in 1996.
Mrs. Gilbert was a member of All Saints Parish, Haverhill, and enjoyed dancing and traveling to the White Mountains. Her greatest accomplishment was in making a home for her children and husband, and caring for her late husband through his illnesses during the later part of his life.
The widow of Gerard L. “Jerry” Gilbert, who died in 2009, she is survived by a son, Gerard L. Gilbert Jr. of Bradford; and a daughter, Denise Marie White of Haverhill; three grandchildren, Hannah Gilbert of Manchester, N.H., Mikaela Gilbert and Cassandra Gilbert, both of Newport, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call today, Wednesday, July 10, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Route 97, Haverhill, MA. A private Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013, in All Saints Church, followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association.
