Bangor, ME — Charlotte E. (Haber) Croce passed away peacefully on February 2, 2014, at the age of 96 at the Winterberry Heights Assisted Living Facility in Bangor, Maine. She was a resident of Methuen for over 65 years.
Charlotte was the beloved wife of the late Carl J. Croce. Born in Lawrence in 1917, she was educated in Lawrence public schools and later attended McIntosh Business School. Following the war, she and her husband opened Carl’s Auto and Truck Service in Lawrence which they operated together for over 35 years until her husband’s death in 1984. Charlotte was the eldest daughter of Alexander and Victoria Haber and was predeceased by her brother, George Haber and her sister, Alice Haber.
Charlotte was active in the Greater Lawrence Community and served as President of the Lawrence Garden Club, Treasurer of the Lawrence YWCA, Treasurer of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts and Treasurer of the Methuen Women’s Club. She also volunteered at both Holy Family Hospital and Lawrence General Hospital. She was a lifetime member of the United American Lebanese Society.
For over 25 years, Charlotte volunteered her time and uplifting spirit at the Shriners Hospital in Boston where she personally organized a volunteer effort to make and distribute Christmas stockings for children hospitalized with burns. In recognition of her volunteering efforts, her name was inscribed in the Gold Book of Volunteers at the Hospital.
Charlotte was affectionately called “Sitto” by her five grandchildren and her nine great-grandchildren, as well as their friends and families. She was a constant source of love and support in all of their lives. Charlotte is survived by her son, Robert C. Croce and his wife, Jill, of Lucerne, ME and her son, Carl R. Croce and his wife, Janet, of Andover, MA.

Visiting hours for family and friends will be Monday, February 10, 2014, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Monica’s Church in Methuen, MA, with burial to follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
